Job Purpose:
The Instrument Technician is responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance, calibration, and installation of electronic (PLC/DCS/SCADA) and pneumatic control system instruments both in the field and workshop. This role involves maintaining transmitters, control valves, shutdown switches, vibration probes, and analysers, as well as performing condition monitoring, fault diagnosis, and restorative tasks on Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems.
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular preventive maintenance and calibration of field instruments including transmitters, control valves, and shutdown switches. Complete detailed work reports, including parts used and man hours spent.
  2. Perform emergency repairs and ad hoc checks, including disassembling, cleaning, replacing parts, and reassembling instruments. Report critical malfunctions to the onshore support team.
  3. Address repair work orders, diagnose faults, and replace or repair faulty components on PCBs. Assist in minor overhauls and ensure proper equipment operation through checks and recalibration.
  4. Perform daily checks and calibration of various analyzers (e.g., H2S, O2, gas chromatographs, pH meters). Address routine problems and report serious issues to the supervisor.
  5. Follow maintenance schedules for analyzers, including replacing calibration gases. Document and report maintenance activities.
  6. Regularly inspect all instrumentation and control systems to monitor condition and identify potential issues.
  7. Adhere to safety procedures, isolate equipment before work, follow safety instructions, and use appropriate protective gear.
  8. Assist Senior Technicians with fault diagnosis and maintenance on gas turbine control systems and ESD system. Help troubleshoot gas turbine start-up issues and service control systems, fuel gas control valves, and governors.
  9. Engage in the Company safety program and report any unsafe acts or conditions.
  10. Work with mechanical craftsmen for the maintenance of heavy equipment, including dismantling and reinstating control instruments.
  11. Support field instrumentation and control system improvement or expansion projects, including installation, connection, configuration, and testing

  • Educational Qualifications:
    • Degree or 3-year Diploma/apprenticeship in the instrument/control trade (equivalent to UK City and Guilds/NVQ or ONC/OND).

  • Experience:
    • 4-5 years of electronic instrumentation maintenance experience in oil and gas, with significant experience in field analyzers.
    • Proficient in computer applications (Microsoft Office and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, preferably Oracle)
    • Excellent command of English, both written and oral.
