Technical Manager, OFE Engineering Florence, Italy
A global energy company is seeking a
Technical Manager – OFE Engineering to join its team in Florence, Italy. This role plays a critical part in the successful delivery of Owner Furnished Equipment (OFE) across complex energy infrastructure projects. The position involves regular collaboration with teams in the United States and Europe and will require periodic international travel.
The Technical Manager will operate within the Projects organization, overseeing the technical execution of key equipment packages supplied by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or licensed technology providers. These packages are strategically selected and directly managed to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance at operating facilities.
Key Responsibilities:- Serve as the primary technical liaison with OEMs and technology licensors, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Manage and coordinate the allocation and performance of technical resources dedicated to OFE projects.
- Oversee the engineering team assigned to OFE scope, providing technical oversight throughout the design, procurement, and quality assurance phases.
- Collaborate with interface managers to resolve technical issues involving other project stakeholders, including EPC contractors.
- Guide engineering participation in critical project milestones such as model reviews (30%, 60%, 90%) and Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs).
- Lead and support the closure of PHA actions and regulatory compliance needs associated with OFE systems.
- Conduct post-project evaluations and lessons learned sessions with equipment suppliers and internal teams.
- Apply project management best practices to technical activities, ensuring effective cost control, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
- Engage subject matter experts as needed and maintain technical consistency across projects.
- Partner with OFE project managers to define and execute the scope of work during both contractual and operational phases.
- Support site activities post-delivery, including installation, commissioning, start-up, and performance testing.
- Influence decisions that enhance system reliability, reduce operational costs, and improve long-term asset value.
- Maintain awareness and compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and internal technical guidelines.
- Contribute to broader company initiatives such as change management, value engineering, procurement strategy, and process optimization.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in engineering design, commissioning, or operations within gas processing or cryogenic industries.
- At least 5 years of multi-discipline engineering leadership experience.
- 5–15 years of experience in LNG liquefaction is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage shifting priorities while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
- Comfortable working across diverse, international teams and organizational cultures.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering documents, including P&IDs, PFDs, one-line diagrams, and civil/structural drawings.
- Thorough understanding of industry codes, technical standards, and regulatory compliance.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Project, PowerPoint, and Excel.
