Senior Project Developer - Solar and Wind

Petroplan is excited to announce its support for a distinguished client, a leading global company in the renewable energy sector and an independent power producer.

They have successfully executed the largest solar and wind project in South Africa and are poised to develop robust hybrid projects combining wind and solar energies.

We are seeking an ideal candidate with over 5 years of experience as a Project Developer in South Africa. The role entails spearheading project development, identifying and evaluating opportunities in solar, wind, storage, and hybrid technologies within the South African market.

Key responsibilities:

• Securing land rights, assessing grid connection feasibility, leading permitting processes, and obtaining all necessary authorizations up to Financial Close using GIS and other relevant tools.
• The successful candidate will manage day-to-day project activities, liaising with subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
• They will ensure technical and commercial project feasibility, proposing strategies to mitigate risks and streamline implementation timelines and costs.
• Budget and schedule management, along with compliance with company objectives, are critical aspects of the role.
• The Project Developer will collaborate closely with the Development Manager, internal departments, and external stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and ensuring projects are delivered on-time and within budget.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business, or a related field.
• A post-graduate degree or specialization in project management is advantageous.
• Prior experience in the renewable energy sector is preferred, along with proficiency in Project Management tools and advanced communication skills in English (additional languages are a plus).
• Key skills sought include strong analytical abilities, proactive problem-solving, a hands-on approach, and the ability to thrive under pressure and tight deadlines.
• The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented mindset, a strong work ethic, and the capability to drive growth within the organization. Extensive travel availability is required.
