Job Specification: Technical Manager

About the Company:
Petroplan is proud to support our client, a leading renewable energy development company, in their search for a Senior Renewable Energy Engineer.

Our client is a rapidly growing business focused on developing large-scale solar PV, onshore wind, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), and green hydrogen projects across the UK, US, Spain, and Italy. With a target of developing 4GW of ready-to-build projects over the next 5 years, the company is dedicated to making a significant contribution to the global energy transition.

Job Overview:
This role will take responsibility for the full project design, from initial feasibility studies to achieving Ready-to-Build (RtB) status, across all technical areas including Solar PV, Wind, Storage, Green Hydrogen, Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering. The successful candidate will work with CAD, modeling, and simulation software to deliver high-quality, utility-scale renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the Development team, conducting feasibility assessments, preliminary layouts, yield studies, drawings, modeling, and other technical documents for securing permits, tenders, and pre-construction design.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their career development.
  • Assist the Technical Director in task prioritization, coordinating design requirements, project CAPEX/OPEX estimation, and time scheduling.
  • Collaborate with external partners to provide, review, and approve customer-focused designs for utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Optimize designs technically and cost-wise, challenging partners where necessary.
  • Define and implement best practices and processes aligned with industry standards.
  • Offer on-site technical support as required.
  • Contribute to building the technical expertise of the company.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies throughout the project lifecycle.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:

A degree in electrical engineering is preferred, but other engineering disciplines will be considered.

  • Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in a project manager/engineer role within the renewable energy sector (solar/wind) for an EPC or consultancy.

  • Technical Skills:

Strong understanding of renewable energy concepts, including mechanical, electrical, and structural design.
Proficiency in CAD software (2D and 3D AutoCAD).
Proficiency in PVsyst and performing solar resource assessments using meteorological data from sources like Solargis and Meteonorm.
Experience with PVCase, WindPro, Wind Planner, and/or Boxkite is an advantage.
Advanced Excel skills, including complex modeling and macros.
Broad understanding of LV and HV electrical standards, as well as energy, chemical, mechanical, and electrical standards.

  • Project Management:

Hands-on experience with Solar PV, CSP, and/or Wind Project design in an EPC or engineering consultancy.
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, particularly with cloud-based tools.

  • Communication:

Fluency in English and Spanish is essential, with other languages as a plus.
Ability to effectively communicate technical issues to diverse stakeholders.
Strong visualisation and communication skills to convey ideas clearly.

  • Additional Requirements:

A commitment to the client's mission and working principles.
Willingness and ability to travel as required.
Appreciation for the broader business and environmental impact of design.
