We are currently seeking a Project Site Engineer to support our large electrical infrastructure projects, such as HVDC substations and complex industrial facilities, in the western US. This position is based in Utah, and will involve planning and executing contracts with a targeted start date in Q3/Q4 2024. The role includes collaboration with specialized engineering firms and oversight of in-house preliminary design activities.


The organization seeks a skilled Site Engineer with at least 5 years of relevant experience in substation projects. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure successful project completion. The Site Engineer will provide technical guidance and serve as the liaison between construction teams and the engineering team.

PRIMARY FUNCTION
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Engineer specializing in substation projects. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the field and will be responsible for supporting electrical substations construction teams. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of projects. The position is required to provide technical guidance and support to PPG's construction teams, as well as be the teams direct link back to the broader engineering team on the project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Act as the main technical expert on site, guiding construction crews and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering specifications, industry standards, and construction regulations.
  • Address issues independently or as part of the construction team.
  • Assist in resolving construction challenges and deviations from plans.
  • Coordinate with home office design teams for timely issue resolution when needed.
  • Identify risks and implement measures to minimize delays, cost overruns, and safety hazards.
  • Process submittals and RFIs.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Support plan reviews and approvals with local and state municipalities.
  • Report to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Manager on open issues.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in large high-voltage substations.
  • Strong technical background in electrical equipment installation and operation.
  • Familiarity with high, medium, and low voltage installations, substation design, grounding, and protection.
  • Ability to collaborate with project team members and clients, demonstrating leadership.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • P.E. license preferred but not required.
