Contract Lab Chemist Job Description

Overview:
The Contract Lab Chemist at the Refinery works in a temperature-controlled environment, conducting process control and product certification testing on refinery feedstocks, intermediate streams, finished products, and processing chemicals. The role includes running QC samples to ensure the accuracy of tests, supporting the safe and efficient operation of the refinery, and aiding Marketing in selling high-quality fuels, petroleum feedstocks, and asphalt products.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in refinery safety and health initiatives.
• Perform routine and QC testing as directed by senior Chemists.
• Record all test results in the Laboratory Information Management System.
• Maintain and clean lab instruments and equipment; perform routine maintenance and assist with complex repairs.
• Write Safe Work Permits for building, grounds, or instrument maintenance.
• Execute additional duties such as QC administration, procedure writing, supply ordering, and training.
• Assist with inventory control and work request preparation.
• Support the Lab Tester with tank sampling if needed.

Required Skills:

• Multitasking to handle multiple samples simultaneously.
• Time management to meet testing deadlines.
• Strong communication for accurate information relay.
• Organizational skills for tracking and reporting results.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Scientific and mathematical skills for applying formulas and calculations.

Education:
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

1. B.S. in Chemistry (preferred)
2. 4-year science degree with 20 credits in general and organic Chemistry with labs
3. 2-4 years of Laboratory experience
